Casey’s General Stores Inc. has acquired 26 Minit Mart stores from EG Group in the Kansas City, Mo., metropolitan area. The acquisition was confirmed by Casey’s, but the company declined to disclose details about the transaction.
Casey’s already has more than 12 stores in the Kansas City metro area, and it plans to develop its newly acquired locations. The company has been growing steadily in rural and mid-sized markets such as Omaha, Oklahoma City, and Knoxville, Tenn. With the addition of the 26 Minit Mart stores, Casey’s hopes to reach even more loyal customers in Kansas City.
According to OPIS MarketSharePro, Casey’s is currently ranked third in market share behind QuikTrip and Phillips 66 in the Kansas City market. Casey’s has an 11.51% market share based on fleet transactions and a 12.09% market share based on visit counts. In comparison, QuikTrip has a 50.77% market share based on fleet transactions and a 38.84% market share based on visit counts.
Casey’s sells gasoline at market prices, while QuikTrip and Phillips 66 typically post prices averaging about a half-cent above market, according to OPIS data.
