Alpha Metallurgical Resources has experienced delays in the shipment of thousands of tons of vessel and coal due to production halt at a mine and a mechanical failure at a plant.
Mine Halt
The mining company, based in Bristol, Tennessee, and operating across Virginia and West Virginia, had to stop production at its Road Fork 52 mine because of a ventilation problem. Although the mine is expected to ramp back to full capacity soon, shipments to customers will inevitably be delayed. The company estimates that it will make up these delayed tons in Q3.
Technical Failure
Moreover, a technical failure related to the stacker/reclaimer machine at the Dominion Terminal Associates facility in Virginia, where Alpha holds a 65% interest, resulted in delayed vessel loading for almost 250,000 short tons of Alpha’s shipments for export customers.
The plant remained inoperable for about three days as repairs were carried out, but the situation has now been resolved. Alpha expects to fulfill these shipments in early July.
Conclusion
Despite the temporary setbacks, both issues have been solved and the stacker/reclaimer is now back to full capacity.
