Macy’s, the popular department store chain, has announced that it will be hiring fewer seasonal workers for the upcoming holiday season compared to the previous year. Despite this reduction, the company still plans to fill more than 38,000 full- and part-time positions across its Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Bluemercury stores.
Last year, Macy’s offered over 41,000 job openings for the seasonal period, including opportunities in their distribution centers. However, for the current holiday season, they have scaled back on their hiring campaign.
In September 2021, Macy’s initially planned to hire approximately 76,000 employees, with 48,000 of them being seasonal workers. This adjustment in their hiring strategy reflects the changing retail landscape and customer preferences.
Recently, Macy’s reported a decline in revenue and a small loss during the second quarter, mainly due to reduced consumer spending at their physical stores and an increase in delinquencies among credit-card holders. Jeff Gennette, the retiring Chief Executive of Macy’s, highlighted that shifting consumer behaviors have led to uncertainty in the macroeconomic environment.
Despite these challenges, Macy’s remains dedicated to providing exceptional shopping experiences throughout the holiday season. As part of their ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction, they are making strategic adjustments to align with changing market dynamics.
