Mercury Systems, an aerospace and defense technology company based in Andover, Massachusetts, announced a leadership shakeup on Friday. The company has named Bill Ballhaus as interim CEO after failing to find a buyer. Current CEO Mark Aslett will resign from his role on Saturday, and Ballhaus will serve as interim CEO until a permanent successor is found.
Ballhaus, 55, is not a new face in the company – he has served as a member of the board of directors since 2022. He has previously held leadership positions as the CEO of education technology company Blackboard from 2016 until its merger with Anthology in 2021 and the CEO of information technology company SRA International.
In addition to the changes in the CEO position, Mercury Systems also announced that it has identified the next CFO, whose name will be announced in the coming weeks. Michelle McCarthy will continue as the chief accounting officer.
Mercury Systems Appoints New Independent Director
Mercury Systems, a technology company specializing in secure processing subsystems, has recently appointed Gerard DeMuro as an independent director effective Saturday. DeMuro is the co-CEO of aerospace company Eve Air Mobility. The company plans to add another unnamed independent director pending onboarding formalities.
In January, Mercury Systems had its board evaluate strategic alternatives, with a focus on the potential sale of the company. Although the board received more than 40 potential bidders, the board determined that the proposals wouldn’t reflect the intrinsic value of the company. Consequently, the board decided to conclude the sale process and will instead focus on all potential opportunities to create value. The company’s refreshed leadership will be spearheading the enhanced execution of the Company’s strategic plan.
