When Safra Catz took over as solo CEO of software giant Oracle in 2019, the company looked lost with negative sales growth. But Catz had a solid plan to turn things around, and it is working successfully.
The plan had two parts. First, lure enterprise software customers to the cloud and away from proprietary data centers. Second, build a cloud-computing business that can compete with tech giants Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet. This strategy is paying off, with cloud revenue skyrocketing 77% in the May quarter alone.
One of the reasons for this success can be attributed to the fact that the Oracle Cloud is perfect for generative AI. This new area of technology requires the kind of modern IT infrastructure that Oracle provides, which gives it a competitive edge over its rivals.
Catz may not have a high profile in the media, but as the CEO, she is running the business exceptionally well, executing a revamp at scale rarely seen in the tech industry. Instead of talking to the media, Catz prefers to let the results speak for themselves.
With Catz firmly at the helm, Oracle’s future looks bright and promising.
