Reliance Industries’ billionaire Mukesh Ambani and Google have unveiled a budget smartphone for the larger Indian market, according to Bloomberg.
JioPhone, targets millions of first-time users in India. The “built for India” smartphone would offer a voice assistant, translation features, and claims to offer a great camera.
The new smartphone will debut on September 10 ahead of India’s peak shopping and gifts season. The companies are yet to disclose the market price of the gadget.
Google Cloud technologies will be integrated into Jio’s upcoming 5G wireless solutions. The cloud technologies will also serve the internal needs of online services in Reliance Retail and JioMart.
The Jio-Google launch is expected to face competition from smartphone markers like Xiaomi and Oppo which have set up manufacturing facilities in India.
With 423 million users of data and voice services, Jio is India’s leading telecom operator. The new 4G-enabled smartphone will seek to attract users of basic phones.
