Williamsport, Pa. — In an effort to prioritize player safety, Little League International has made a significant change to the accommodations provided during the Little League World Series at the Williamsport complex. Following an incident last year where a young player suffered a severe head injury from falling out of his top bunk, all teams participating in the tournament will now have the comfort of single, one-level beds.
The decision was made after 12-year-old Easton Oliverson, a talented pitcher and outfielder from Santa Clara, Utah, was injured in August of last year. Little League International took immediate action, placing all beds directly on the floor for the duration of the 2022 World Series. Looking ahead to the 2023 Little League International Tournament, the organization is fully committed to providing its participants with safer sleeping arrangements. This includes installing single beds at each of its tournament locations, specifically at the dormitories in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. These facilities can easily accommodate the total of 14 single beds required.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from August 16th to August 27th this year, with teams from across the globe eagerly awaiting this exciting event.
Although Easton Oliverson’s injury was a tragic incident, his family has remained resilient. Throughout his recovery process in 2022, they diligently kept the public informed through various social media platforms. These regular updates included heartwarming photos of Easton posing with his loved ones while wearing his baseball T-shirts, despite being confined to a wheelchair. However, in light of the unfortunate accident, his family has chosen to take legal action against both Little League International and the bed manufacturer.
