# Threads to Launch Desktop Version Meta Platforms Inc.’s rival to Twitter, Threads, is set to release a desktop version this week, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.
Users have been eagerly awaiting a desktop version of Threads, especially after the recent addition of a chronological timeline. While it is currently possible to view Threads links on the web, a dedicated desktop version will help expand the service to a wider audience, experts say.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed that work on a desktop version of Threads is underway, although he cautioned that it is still in the testing phase. He assured users that once it is ready, it will be made available to everyone.
Threads was launched in July as a response to the frustrations expressed by users regarding changes made by Elon Musk to X. Despite seeing a decline in user growth and engagement in the weeks following its initial success with over 100 million signups, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg remains optimistic about the platform’s future.
The recent announcement by Musk to remove the ability to block people on X has stirred further controversy. This move not only affects basic safety functions but also potentially violates the terms of service of Apple Inc.’s App Store and Alphabet’s Google Play.
Year-to-date, Meta shares have seen a significant increase of over 135%, outperforming the S&P 500’s gain of 14%.
